Laser Frenectomies
The tissue that attaches the upper lip to the gum tissue or that attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth is called the “frenulum.” In some infants, that tissue can be excessively thick or tight, which can lead to difficulty in breastfeeding due to the inability to properly latch.
In a frenectomy, Dr. Field will release the frenulum under the tongue or upper lip. The goal is to let your child enjoy a better range of motion and an improvement in breastfeeding.
When your little one needs a frenectomy, a laser frenectomy is the easiest and most comfortable procedure for your child. Some babies and children even sleep during the treatment! Because lasers dissolve tissue rather than cut it, there is very little discomfort or bleeding involved.
