First Visit

Even some adults are still scared of dentists, so we are especially cognizant of the fact that children can either start out afraid of dentists or can learn to love their dental visits. Our team at Shoreline Pediatric Dentistry want you and your child to feel comfortable throughout every appointment.

One way we can help is by explaining what you can expect at your child’s first visit.

What Happens During My Child’s First Appointment?

At your child’s first visit we will spend some time getting to know both you and your child. This will include obtaining a thorough health history.

Having an accurate medical history enables us to treat your child in the safest way possible. We will also make sure to address any specific concerns you or your child may have.

If needed, we will obtain dental radiographs using advanced low-radiation digital x-ray machines. Dr. Field will perform a complete oral examination, including evaluation of all teeth, soft tissue, and the relationship of the upper and lower jaws.

The findings from both the oral exam and dental radiographs will allow him to determine the overall oral health of your child and identify any areas of concern.

Important Dental Education

A large part of the fist visit will also be education. During the dental cleaning, our team will give you individualized oral hygiene recommendations to help minimize the potential for tooth decay or other oral problems in your child’s unique smile.

We will also explain information about proper nutrition and high-risk foods and snacks. Our goal is to help teach you and your child how to obtain and maintain good oral health. At the end of the appointment, Dr. Field will review all findings and discuss any recommendations.
